Our Biodiverse Planet

If you calculate percentages based on biomass, plants account for just over 82% of the Earth’s biomass. But if you look at animal biomass, fish make up the vast majority of the planet’s biomass – a whopping 78% of animal life on Earth. Even this percentage may be woefully inadequate since scientists believe that less than 10% of our oceans have actually been explored by humans.
Indeed, over 90% of species that live in the ocean have yet to be described or classified and it is logical to assume the unexplored waters of Earth will yield substantially more as yet undiscovered biodiversity!

Another fun fact: Although it varies a bit by age, sex, and body composition, on average us humans are made up of about 60% water.
