The largest bone in the human body is the femur, commonly referred to as the thigh bone. In case you are wondering, the average human body has 206 bones, but variations from person to person are known. For example, some people may have a different number of ribs than others or fewer vertebrae in their spine.
The thigh bone of a sauropod (pictured above) – one of the largest animals thought to have ever existed – is over six feet long and was discovered at the Angeac-Charente excavation site in southwestern France. Paleontologists believe that sauropods, one of many herbivorous, long-necked and four-legged dinosaurs, were common in the Jurassic era (not Jurassic Park).
